Cohort 17 (Group 1) for a Quality Initiative were curious about the experience of the pre-admission process from the relative's perspective. Relatives had a wide variety of experiences that were not always positive. In consultation with relatives, residents and staff using the Caring Conversations Framework the group discovered family members were surprised and honoured to be asked to be involved in developing and enhancing the pre-admission process.
Taking into consideration information gathered during ''Discovery work'', families, relatives and staff ''Envisioned'' and ''Co-Created'' the Family Involvement Induction Checklist. When the booklet was introduced into care settings, families reported they ‘’felt more involved’’, and instead of feeling like just a visitor to the home, they had an increased sense of ''Belonging''. The group shared this tool with other care settings leaders at the My Home Life Celebration event.
